When we moved into our first and current home back in 2014, I knew I had my work cut out for me. We purchased your typical ranch style home with builders grade light oak wood and beige walls *gag*. Anyone who knows The Trotters knows that we are a black and white kind of family – literally. Unfortunately for us, beige doesn’t fall into that spectrum.
When we purchased this home, we knew we were going to have to paint every room because grey is more our jam. If you’ve painted your home grey or are currently in the process of picking out the perfect grey, you know how difficult it is to find the right shade. You don’t want a blue-grey or a green-grey, or a grey that looks a little purple in some lights. It really is so difficult to find the perfect grey-grey. Have you had a hard time finding the perfect grey? Lucky for you, through my trial and error I’ve rounded up the top 5 perfect grey paint colors.
#1 – Repose Grey by Sherwin-Williams
This is my favorite grey and the most perfect grey I’ve found. It’s more on the lighter side but it makes everything look so clean and airy. We’ve used this as the base grey in our home – painting most rooms this shade. Our kitchen, basement and the light colored stripe on our accent wall is all painted this color.
#2 – Tinsmith by Sherwin-Williams
This is another perfect light grey. Our bedroom color scheme is white, cream, grey and plum and we painted Tinsmith on the walls. When I try to describe this color, whimsical grey comes to mind. It’s a tad bit on the warmer side but goes great with the plum accents we have.
#3 – Dorian Grey by Sherwin-Williams
I’ve found this to be the perfect medium grey. It’s in the same family as Repose Grey – just two shades darker. We painted our living room and hallway this color and because its the perfect neutral color, we’re able to decorate with any accent color. It literally goes with everything.
#4 – Dovetail by Sherwin-Williams
This grey is a really pretty, rich dark grey. Enough said. I think this color would be perfect for painting the outside of your house with some white trim. This grey is timeless and classic.
#5 – Muted Ebony by Valspar
This is the darkest grey I’ve found that I like. We wanted a super modern nursey back when we had Kingston, so we painted the walls this color and had all white furniture and mint accents. It turned out really pretty but I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I think it’s the perfect color for an accent wall, or if you have an all-white kitchen this would be a really pretty color to paint the island.
50 shades of grey come to mind when you think about our home. It took hours of labor to get it this way but I love it. Have you had a hard time finding the perfect grey? If so – I hope this helps! Which is your favorite out of the 5 above?
