Y’all – just this past month I manifested (with the help of a freak hail storm and an insurance adjuster who was having a super generous day) $22,000 worth of free work to the outside of our home. We recieved a new roof, new gutters, new garage door, had our entire house painted, had our fence painted, had our back patio painted and received a new grill – all from a hail storm. We’d looked into painting our house last year and I’m so thankful we decided to hold off. I immediately knew I wanted to make some major updates to our home. We went from a tan house with brown trim and a navy front door, to a navy house with white trim and a bold striped front door.
House color // Benjamin Moore – Hale Navy
Trim color // Behr – Ultra Pure White
When redesigning our exterior – I knew I wanted to do something fun, funky and unique to us for our front door . This resulted in us deciding on stripes. We have a stripe wall as the main focal point in our living room, so it was fitting to continue the theme outside.
When searching on Pinterest for insipration (which surprisingly came up emtpy handed for striped front doors), I came across Feng Shui. Have you heard of it? It’s an ancient art and science that originated in China, and is said to be about getting the energy moving in your home to bring in good fortune and abundance. It’s about the understanding of how the placement of yourself and objects within a space affects your life in various ways. According to the laws of Feng Shui, how your home looks tells a story about how your life looks, and to get in alignment with who you are and where you want to be, you need to align with that energy. All I know is that I can use all the good fortune and abundance I can get – so adding a little pazazz to our front door was totally manageable.
With Feng Shui, everything starts with your front door. Your front door is said to be the “mouth of Chi” where all good energy enters and rejuvinates your home. It’s a preview for what people can expect inside your home and ultimately inside you. Have you ever driven by a house that has a really cute front porch or a vibrant front door and loved it? Then you immediately wonder what they’ve done to the inside if they’ve put so much consideration into the outside. I know I have! Those are exactly the thoughts I want people to have when they drive past my house.
Tips For Good Front Door Feng Shui = Abundance
- Give your porch a good clean. Think as if Oprah was coming for dinner.
- Make sure your door bell is working properly.
- Give your door a pop of color to make it memorable. *Note – different colors give different meanings – but red is supposed to be an awesome color for attracting prosperity.
- Add a welcome mat. Something that looks nice and is sized appropriately. You want all guests to feel welcomed in your home.
- Have something flank either side of the door. Plants are usually a good thing to put here.
- Use it! Opportunities come through the front door so make sure you are open to attracting those.
I incorporated most of these elements into the planning of our fronch porch renovation, but didn’t find out until after the fact that most of what we did was considered ‘good Feng Shui’. My intuition must be on point! We have a clean front porch with a working door bell. A unique and bold front door that makes a statement and is memorable. A welcome mat and chairs that flank our door. I’d say it checks all the boxes.
